Miria marae
Marae group presentation
At first I thought that the trustees of Miria Marae were crazy letting youth design their marae?
5 youth with the help of our tutors. I thought it was impossible and it wasn't real. But it was, we had our first meeting with the trustees of the marae. They talked about their land and history behind the place. We started developing our ideas around their korero. We started with the flow and experimenting making models having fun and working hard etc. Then we chose a main concept idea and followed that further.
Hineamaru and the land caves.
I started by researching Hineamaru and the story behind her. She was a really strong woman of Ngati Hine a great ancestor. I chose this concept because I can relate to her through her strength. My dad got sick a while back now it was gutting for my family. I had to be strong for my younger siblings and look after them while dad was in hospital. It was hard. Hineamaru like to hideaway in her caves, being all secretive, thats my thing. I enjoy hiding away I'm really really shy, the thought of talking to big crowds is freaky!!
It was getting closer to the presentation day. NERVES were getting higher as we pulled together our presentation.
We developed plans and models. Plans got realer , models were accurate and the presentation was coming together. We practiced what we were gonna say.
Then came time to present the car ride over was nerve racking!!. We arrived and were greeted by some of the whanau. A couple mihis were said THEN!!!! Presentation time. My heart started racing i could feel my face burning. I tried to "picture everyone naked" like Rowena said. That didn't help it was my turn short and sweet so I was lucky. After I said my piece my heart stopped racing, face wasn't burning anymore I was HAPPY. After we were invited for a cup of tea and biscuits its part of the tikanga. Some people were giving feedback. Craig came up and said to me "When your presenting to an audience look over their heads it makes them think your talking to them when your not". Presentation went great overall. HAPPY TUTORS, HAPPY YOUTH. I was happy when we were heading home after a long day.
